AI can create a new discovery channel, but discovery itself is not revenue. The useful metric is what happens after a potential client finds you.
AI discovery changes the top of the funnel
Clients can now discover salons, clinics and specialists through search engines, marketplaces and AI-assisted recommendations. That makes attribution harder: the first touch may not look like a traditional ad click.
The conversion problem stays familiar
Whatever the discovery channel, the commercial path is still inquiry → dialogue → booking → visit. If the business cannot connect those stages, a new source of attention simply creates a new place to lose people.
What to record
Track the source when it is known, the first meaningful contact, whether a booking was created, whether the visit happened and whether the client returned. This gives a usable view even when the discovery channel changes.
What to avoid
Do not evaluate AI visibility only by impressions, mentions or traffic. Those numbers are useful for discovery, but they do not show whether the business gained a client.
What to do next
Treat AI discovery as another entry point into the same customer journey. Build reporting around bookings and visits, not around the novelty of the channel.
